The highest hit digital surface model (DSM) represents the earth's surface elevation with all water surface, vegetation, and human-made structures included. It is derived from integrated NIR and Bathymetric LiDAR data using the highest hit method. The horizontal datum for this dataset is NAD83 (HARN), the vertical datum is NAVD88, Geoid03, and the data is projected in Washington State Plane South. Units are in US Survey Feet. Quantum Spatial collected the Teanaway Streams Topobathymetric LiDAR data for Puget Sound LiDAR Consortium between 04/30/15 and 05/02/15.

In some areas of heavy vegetation or forest cover, there may be relatively few ground points in the LiDAR data. TINing the points produces large triangles and hence the elevations may be less accurate within such areas. Additionally, the Riegl VQ820G has a stated depth penetration of 1.5 secchi depths and therefore bathymetric data deeper than 1.5 secchi depths at the time of acquisition is not to be expected. Users should be aware that temporal changes may have occurred since this dataset was collected and that some parts of these data may no longer represent actual surface conditions.

Acquisition. Quantum Spatial collected the Teanaway Streams Topobathymetric LiDAR data between 04/30/15 and 05/02/15. The survey used a Riegl VQ820G laser system and a Leica ALS70 laser system mounted in a Cessna Caravan 208B. Data was collected using a single pulse flight plan. Ground level GPS and aircraft IMU were collected during the flight.

Bathymetric LiDAR Processing:
1. Flight lines and data were reviewed to ensure complete coverage of the study area and positional accuracy of the laser points.
2. Laser point return coordinates were computed based on independent data from the LiDAR system, IMU, and aircraft.
3. The raw LiDAR file was assembled into flight lines per return with each point having an associated x, y, and z coordinate.
4. Automated system alignment was computed based upon randomly selected swath to swath accuracy measurements that consider elevation, slope, and intensities. Specifically, refinement in the combination of system pitch, roll and yaw offset Parameters optimize internal consistency.
5. Data was processed with a combination of manual and automated techniques using both Riegl software and in-house proprietary software to refract water returns and classify ground and bathymetric returns.
6. The corrected and filtered return points were compared to ground survey points to verify the vertical accuracy.
7. Points were output as laser points, TINed and GRIDed surfaces
